Hello, I’m lori palmer.

Discovering Nonviolent Communication
When I was pregnant with my daughter, I found myself immersed in the world of parenting books and articles. I stumbled upon a concept that would become a guiding light in my journey: Nonviolent Communication (NVC). At first, the term intrigued me. I was seeking alternatives to the common methods of parenting, ones that didn't involve punishments and rewards. I yearned for an approach that would enable me to foster a loving relationship with my child while also setting boundaries. As I began to explore NVC, I discovered a whole new world of communication that emphasizes the power of empathy, authenticity and mindfulness in our interactions with others. I learned that showing up with curiosity and care, rather than judgment and expectation, could transform the way we connect with one another.

Transforming Lives through Nonviolent Communication
My work with students with autism and emotional disturbance provided me with a foundation for showing up for others during challenging experiences. Teaching high school for ten years and earning a Masters of Science Degree in Education continue to support me in my current roles as NVC facilitator, Girl Scout volunteer and Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI) chair at my daughter’s school. As a passionate practitioner of NVC, I try to integrate this peaceful approach into every aspect of my life. Currently, I facilitate Nonviolent Communication training for parents, children, individuals, couples, small groups and schools. I am also working towards certification with the CNVC (Center for Nonviolent Communication) and have had the opportunity to complete NVC courses with Miki Kashtan, Roxy Manning, Oren Jay Sofer, Sarah Peyton and Mary Mackenzie to name a few.

A Holistic Approach
Alongside my NVC training, I have explored the remarkable realms of Dan Siegel’s Interpersonal Neurobiology in his 6-month course, recognizing the crucial connection between our nervous systems, emotions, and communication. I have also trained in the field of trauma-informed communication with courses about Resonant Healing from Sarah Peyton, Polyvagal Theory from Lori Desautels at The Polyvagal Institute and trauma informed parenting from Echo Training. These valuable experiences have deepened my understanding of how past experiences and trauma responses can shape our communication patterns. This knowledge has expanded my ability to guide others in navigating their own emotional responses so they can show up with a greater sense of empathy and understanding.

In addition, my journey in mindfulness and meditation has spanned over twelve years. These practices have nurtured my ability to observe my own thoughts and emotions non-judgmentally, allowing me to remain more present for myself and others. Through this deep presence, I create a safe and compassionate space for individuals and groups to explore their own experiences and emotions. By blending my training in trauma-informed communication, Polyvagal Theory, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and mindfulness, I offer a holistic approach that addresses the unique needs of every individual and group.
